emotional intelligence in economic development
The root meaning of ‘economy’ means to do with the management of a household. Abraham Lincoln said that the future lies with what one man makes of tilling a piece of land. That is actually the original meaning of husband. One who tends the land. A farmer. The Greeks saw economy as the intrinsic things that need to be gotten right to make a happy balanced functioning homestead.
Mankind is one big family. Carl Sandburg, the poet, wrote:
"there is only one man in the world and his name is all men."
To live and love in harmony we must use our imagination to see beyond the desert and conflicts of our fearful selves.
To reach for the stars we must see between the lines. That is what intelligence means.
inter- between legere - to read
to read between the lines of thought to not get lost in over thinking to not get blinded by thought to see with vision and then to let thought structure itself within the scaffolding, the ley lines of what is inspired. That's how great minds perceive. They go out and see the landscape thriving, the culture awash with blooming personalities and dynamic models of engagement. The Founding Fathers saw their system in, believed it in. There was no precedent. They birthed a dream.
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.”
"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them."
Henry David Thoreau
They imagined it first and from that template...it flowered.
We could do the same with economic development.
On a global scale.
We believe it's possible first. We see it. Then we see it in.
We build the foundations under that vision.
That's how it works.
