Breathe.in workshops

We believe in the power of positive messaging. We believe in looking at what is possible. And at what is apparently impossible and seeing a path to fulfilment, even when others might deny the possibility. This is focused intent. We breathe in a new future with ours. You and I make we.

You need not be addicted to pain.

When we are attentive to the nuanced beauty in the human spirit we can envision a different story for ourselves. If we are stressed we may become the slave to appetites. But where there is compassion, and wisdom, we cannot. When we perceive ourselves as sick we need crutches and a victim mind state will tend to hijack our story. But we are not victims. We can celebrate the breath.

'Breathe in" and "inspire" are interchangable.

The difference between coaching and therapy is that the coach does not see the problem. The coach focuses on the goal to be achieved.

Take smoking

He won't say anything about the smoking. Or he will simply say - you have the strength within to drop this. I see you doing it. I know you can do it. He won't make it an issue that you smoke. He will focus on finding out what you enjoy doing - cycling? walking? How are you attending to yourself? How are you visualizing your present? What are the axioms of feeling that rule your worldview? He will be attentive to those. To which are creative. And he will focus on those exclusively. He will question the validity of the roots of the stressed areas and look for what sensitivities need to be awakened in you. He will focus on seeing you with the life you aspire to flourishing all around you. Counseling and therapy focus on the problem, on the victim mind.

Where there is emotional trauma there is this sense of a need for therapy. But when we "therapize" or "counsel" ourselves into making the problem important we can lose sight of vision.

Coaching focuses on vision. On the bigger picture.

On fresh green growth. On what is generative.

When a field is poisoned we heal it by planting new seeds, adding water, mixing in fertilizer so that the soil is strong. Then it has the inner strength to carry out the poisons, to heal the trauma - to focus on new heights. Not wallow in pained histories - not allow behaviors to be governeed by defininng ourselves as victims...But project fresh happy healed scenarios into form by the leveraging of wholehearted focused creative minds.

breath workshops

There is a direct connection between the breath and the mind.  When we are agitated and stressed the breath is impacted. When we take deep long focused inhales the mind is calmed. When we laugh we initiate relaxation in the body too. Whether we like it or not, smoking is a pranayama or breathing practice. Like other ”forms” of breathing practice, a smoke break is a conscious break for a particular form of enhanced breathing that puts the practitioner into a more relaxed and centered state, and by doing so relieves stress.

Colombia has made a lot of progress in reducing smoking. They have followed two focused strategies since 2008. First, they lobbied to increase taxes on cigarettes and secondly they have no negative smoking zones. No public messaging says ‘you can’t smoke here.’ They only have smoke zones where it is stated you CAN smoke here.

Organ donorship is a complex field but there are effectively two paths governments provide on forms. Opt in or opt out. Opt out means you are automatically listed for organ donorship unless you opt out and opt in means you have to register to donate organs. Tick no or tick yes. Automatic opt in or automatic opt out and then you say no or yes. Positive vs negative. In countries with “hard opt-out" systems there have been increased in the organ donor rate of up to 25%.

From the “devil” to “spirit.” We believe people take to smoking because it helps reduce stress. We don’t believe judging that coping mechanism is helpful.

Deep breaths relieve stress. So does a sauna. So does a cigarette. Our approach to smoking is to embrace positive relationships with the breath and not to focus on the smoke. It has often been seen in yoga schools that a focused yoga practice where loving the body gently and wisely is prioritized then tobacco consumption just naturally goes down. At sutranovum we celebrate the breath. We run courses on the breath for smokers who are interested in embracing the positive.
